21-Year-Old Arrested in Lucknow Over Alleged Religious Conversion

By Mahima Katal Lucknow, June 27: A 21-year-old man has been arrested in Lucknow for allegedly attempting to convert a woman's religion and concealing his marital status while entering into a relationship with her, police said.


The accused, identified as Sahil Hussain, was arrested following a complaint lodged by the woman at the Aminabad police station on Friday.


According to the complaint, Hussain, a resident of Lucknow's Maqboolganj area, allegedly tried to coerce the woman into changing her religion, hid the fact that he was already married, physically assaulted her, and subjected her to verbal abuse.


Based on the complaint, police registered a case against Hussain under Sections 69 (sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021.


During interrogation, the accused told police that he had met the woman through Instagram and expressed remorse for his actions, according to a police statement.
