Amit Shah Speaks to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Over Flood Situation, Assures Central Support

New Delhi, June 29: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday spoke with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to review the flood situation in parts of the state, assuring full support from the Centre for relief and rehabilitation efforts.

According to officials, Shah sought details on the extent of the damage caused by rising river levels and reiterated the Centre's commitment to assist the Assam government in managing the crisis.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said nearly 16,000 people have been affected by floods across 69 villages under four revenue circles in Dhemaji district.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said he has been closely monitoring the situation since flooding began in Dhemaji.

"I've been closely monitoring the flood situation ever since it unfolded in Dhemaji. We are deeply saddened by the impact it has had on the lives of our people. In this difficult time, we stand firmly with them," Sarma posted on X on Sunday.

He said the state government has mobilised all available resources to ensure the immediate safety of affected residents while also planning for their long-term rehabilitation.

"We are leaving no stone unturned to mitigate the impact of this flood on our people," he added.

Meanwhile, train services on the Archipathar–Simen Chapari section in Dhemaji district have been suspended due to flooding and severe riverbank erosion affecting a railway bridge, the North Frontier Railway (NFR) said.

The NFR stated that although the bridge, originally built in 1965 and later converted to broad gauge, remained structurally safe, heavy rainfall washed away a significant portion of the riverbank, destabilising one of its piers and forcing authorities to halt train operations as a precaution.
