Bihar transfers 18 senior IPS officers amid controversies over Bharat Tiwari encounter and alleged AK-47 use during Siwan student protest.

New Delhi, August 18: The Bihar government on Tuesday transferred 18 senior IPS officers, including the SPs of Bhojpur and Siwan, who were involved in massive controversies over recent police actions in the two districts. The two major incidents included the alleged use of an AK-47 during a student protest in Siwan and the encounter of local activist Bharat Tiwari in Bhojpur.
AK-47 Rifle on Student Protestors
According to a notification issued by the state Home Department, Siwan SP Pooran Kumar Jha has been transferred and placed on the waiting list for a new posting. Jha was heading the district when an AK-47 rifle was allegedly used during a student protest in Siwan on July 25, triggering controversy over the police action.
Bharat Tiwari Encounter Controversy
Bhojpur SP Raj has also been transferred. The move comes amid an outcry over the encounter of local activist Bharat Tiwari, which took place during his tenure as the district's SP. The police action sparked controversy and raised questions over the circumstances surrounding the encounter.

Who Replaced Them?
The Home Department notification named new officers for the key posts. Bharat Soni has been appointed as the new SP of Siwan, while Awadesh Dikshit will take charge as SP of Bhojpur. Hriday Kant has been appointed as the new SP of Nalanda.
The government has also ordered several other senior-level transfers.
Anil Kumar, DIG, Telecommunications and Technical Services, has been posted to the Prohibition and Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF). DIG (Vigilance Investigation Bureau) Mrityunjay Kumar Choudhary has been transferred to the Civil Defence unit, while Aamir Javed, DIG, SC and Women Cell, Crime Investigation Unit, has been posted to the Vigilance Investigation Bureau.
Rajesh Kumar, SP, Cyber Investigation and Operations, Economic Offences Unit, has been transferred to the Prohibition and State Narcotics Control Bureau.
Saran SSP Vineet Kumar has been posted to the Anti-Terrorism Squad, while Ramanand Kumar Kaushal, SP, CID, has been transferred as SP of the Vigilance Unit.
Rohtas SP Roshan Kumar has been appointed as the new SSP of Saran, according to the notification.
