New Delhi, June 2: Hours after US President Donald J Trump claimed to have averted a fresh round of conflict between Isreal and Lebanon, Israel proved him wrong by attacking Southern Lebanon in which 8 people were killed.

“Thank you Bibi!,” Trump had said in a social media post while thanking Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, nicknamed ‘Bibi’, for allegedly backing out from a raid on his request. The claim by Trump relevant as any impending attack or fresh round of conflict was likely to derail peace talks between US and Iran.

Trump had said in a post earlier that Iran really wants to make a deal and it will be a good one for the US and those that are with us.

Any fresh round of conflict in the region was likely to derail the talks. It was in this backdrop that Trump claimed that he had a conversation with Bibi Netanyahu, asking him not to go into a major raid of Beirut, Lebanon. “He turned his Troops around. Thank you Bibi!,” Trump posted on his Truth Social handle.

He said he also had a conversation with representatives of the leaders of Hezbollah, and they agreed to stop shooting at Israel, and its soldiers. Likewise, Israel agreed to stop shooting at them. Let’s see how long that lasts — Hopefully it will be for ETERNITY!,” Trump said.

Trump said he had a “very productive call” with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel, and there will be no Troops going to Beirut, and any Troops that are on their way, have already been turned back. I also had a “very good call” with Hezbollah. Both sides had agreed to stop shooting.

The intervention by Trump was necessary to salvage the peace talks between US and Iran but the claim that he had already averted the impending conflict proved wrong.

Trump was under pressure to strike a deal with Iran and this is reflected from his posts in which he has repeatedly been taking about arriving at a deal. Trump blamed his opponents for not trusting him.

“But don’t the Dumocrats and various seemingly unpatriotic Republicans, understand that it is Much tougher for me to properly do my job and negotiate, when political hacks keep negatively ‘chirping’, at a level never seen before, over and over again….” Trump said in a separate post.
