Bihar Jamui Student Harassment Case: Key Accused Shot in Leg After Alleged Escape Attempt
Five people have now been arrested in connection with the case, while two other accused are reportedly minors.

New Delhi, September 22: The key accused in the alleged harassment and assault of two Class 10 students in Bihar’s Jamui district was arrested on Tuesday after he was shot in the leg during an encounter with the Bihar Police.
The accused, identified as Nandan Yadav, was taken to a hospital for treatment. According to police, Yadav was being taken to the reported crime scene as part of the investigation when he allegedly attempted to flee from custody. Police said an encounter followed, during which he was shot in the leg.
The investigation comes two days after a video of the September 19 incident went viral on social media. The footage allegedly showed a group of men stopping the two minor students, assaulting the boy and harassing the girl. The two were reportedly returning from coaching classes when they were approached by the group.
According to the video cited in social media reports, the accused allegedly grabbed the girl and attempted to separate her from the boy, while the boy tried to protect her. The footage triggered widespread outrage and criticism.
Jamui Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Dayal had earlier said that a Special Investigation Team headed by a woman police officer was conducting raids to arrest all those involved. Police traced the victims with the help of the registration number of a vehicle visible in the viral video.
Five people have now been arrested in connection with the case, while two other accused are reportedly minors.
Police have also warned against sharing the video or revealing information that could disclose the identities of the minor victims. The SP said such disclosure could attract action under laws including the POCSO Act, Information Technology Act and Juvenile Justice Act.
The incident has also triggered a political row, with leaders calling for strict action against those involved.
