Delhi Doctor Confesses to Killing Long-Serving House Help; Were Occult Practices Involved?

New Delhi, June 18: The Delhi Police received a PCR call on Thursday regarding the alleged murder of a woman in south Delhi’s upscale Mount Kailash area. When officers reached the spot, they found a doctor sitting near the body, which lay in a pool of blood on the terrace.

The police arrested the accused, identified as Manish Gupta, on the spot. During questioning, he allegedly confessed to attacking the woman, who had worked as a domestic help at his residence for seven years. He is said to have first assaulted her with a bat and later stabbed her with a knife, police said.

“A police team rushed to the spot and found the victim dead. A man in his 50s was also present near the body when they arrived,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari said.

Police said the motive behind the killing is not yet clear. Given the circumstances in which the body was found and the fact that the accused did not attempt to flee, speculation arose about a possible occult angle. However, officials clarified that no such evidence has emerged during the preliminary investigation.

They added that the murder may have stemmed from a personal dispute, though all angles are being examined.

A reconstruction of the crime scene is underway to understand the sequence of events that led to the killing of the 45-year-old domestic help. Police are also collecting forensic evidence and reviewing CCTV footage from nearby buildings.

The body has been sent for postmortem examination, while the alleged weapons—a bat and a knife—have been recovered from the scene.

Victim's Family Clueless

The victim’s family expressed shock over her death. “I don’t know what exactly happened. She was fine when she left. Someone called me and said she had died,” said Robin, her son, who also alleged that the police did not allow him to see the body.

Pooja Verma, a fellow domestic worker who knew the victim, described her as a well-known and respected member of the community.

She also said the accused ran a clinic in Saket and worked as a doctor both at home and outside. “She had worked at his house for seven years,” Verma said.

“Someone said they saw people beating her. They also said she was attacked with sticks and a bat,” she alleged.

As news of the incident spread, a crowd gathered outside the building, including domestic workers who knew the victim and had worked with her over the years.
