Mumbai's Parel-Chinchpokli area returned to calm after clashes and stone pelting during an Eid Milad-un-Nabi procession, with heavy police deployment.

New Delhi, August 27: Mumbai's Parel-Chinchpokli area witnessed tension on Wednesday night, August 26, reportedly after a scuffle broke out between two groups during an Eid Milad-un-Nabi procession. Following the incident, the police arrived at the spot and took control over the situation. Officials have increased security in the area to avoid further clashes.0
The incident took place near Laxmi Cottage Building in Parel after slogans raised from both sides led to a verbal altercation and subsequently clashes, reported The Times of India. Several footage showing the violent confrontation is taking rounds on the internet since yesterday.
It showed a large crowd blocking the road following the altercation. Individuals from both sides can be seen arguing, while police officers attempted to disperse the crowd amid the violence. Police were also seen using force to disperse the mob.
Police Presence and Situation
After reaching at the spot, the Police appealed to people not to believe rumours. Dr Manoj Sharma, Mumbai Police Joint Commissioner (Law and Order), stated that the situation was under control and senior officers have been deployed to ensure peace in the area.
"There is no such issue anymore. Senior officers are on-site, and the situation is completely calm. Please do not believe rumours," a report by news agency ANI quoted Sharma as saying.
The road from Byculla to Lalbaug Parel Bridge was closed, and traffic was diverted to alternate routes as police maintained heightened security in the area.
Timeline of the incident
According to the resident, the scuffle reportedly began around 7 pm, while tensions escalated around 9 pm near Laxmi Cottage, said the media reports. He claimed that banners were allegedly torn amid loud sloganeering.
He also claimed that some people were detained or arrested following the clashes and that several others sustained injuries. The injured were reportedly taken to KEM Hospital in Parel for treatment.
By early morning, the situation appeared peaceful in the Laxmi Cottage area of Parel-Chinchpokli. Police remained deployed in the area, traffic was moving smoothly and shops were reportedly open.
Reference to previous incident
The resident also referred to an earlier incident in Mazgaon during the Mazgaoncha Morya procession, when eggs were allegedly thrown from a building as a Ganesh idol was being carried through the area, according to media reports.
Police have urged people to avoid spreading unverified information. Senior officers have been deployed to monitor the situation and maintain law and order.
Authorities said the situation is currently under control and appealed to residents and commuters to remain calm.
