Greater Noida’s Traffic Overhaul: 45-Minute Link to Ganga Expressway, Separate Lanes for Freight and Passengers

New Delhi, September 8: Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has proposed separating freight and passenger movement in Greater Noida by constructing a 105-metre-wide road up to the Hapur bypass and a six-lane elevated road connecting the Multi Modal Logistics Hub (MMLH) with Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh. The proposal was discussed in a meeting chaired by Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta in Lucknow on Monday

According to a statement released by the minister's office, Alok Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of Industrial Development, was also present during the meeting.

Time reduction with the construction

The road would reduce travel time between Noida-Greater Noida and the Ganga expressway to between 30 to 45 minutes, said GNIDA officials.

As per the statement , Greater Noida and the Ganga expressway would be connected by an additional 15 kilometres of connection.

According to the statement, the proposed road, which would connect to the airport and run parallel to the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, is specifically designed for freight movement. This would allow goods from the logistics hub to be carried straight to the air cargo terminal.

The MMLH and Multi Modal Transport Hub (MMTH) are among the major upcoming projects in Greater Noida and are expected to facilitate freight movement and improve traffic flow between the logistics hub and the airport, the statement said.

The plans are a part of a strategy to change the Greater Noida Master strategy 2041 so that passenger and freight transportation are kept apart.

Extension of Ganga Expressway to Haridwar

A plan to extend the Ganga Expressway to Haridwar has also been authorised by the Uttar Pradesh cabinet, said a report by India TV. With the provision to expand to eight lanes in the future, the proposed greenfield motorway will initially be built with six lanes.

The Ganga expressway extension to Haridwar is expected to cost approximately Rs 10,761 crore. The state government will provide the fund and no financial participation from the central government is expected or proposed for the project.
