India@80: World Leaders Celebrate Independence, Praise Growing Partnerships

World leaders from the US, Israel, Singapore and neighbouring countries greet India on its 80th Independence Day, highlighting strong ties.

New Delhi, August 15: India’s 80th Independence Day drew messages of congratulations and goodwill from leaders and diplomatic missions around the world, with several countries highlighting their close and expanding partnerships with New Delhi.
From the United States and Israel to Singapore, Nepal, Maldives, Latvia, Australia and Ireland, governments and diplomatic representatives conveyed their wishes to the Indian people on the milestone occasion.
Israel praises India-Israel friendship
Israeli President Isaac Herzog extended his greetings to President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India. He expressed hope that the friendship between India and Israel would continue to strengthen.
Herzog also shared his Independence Day message in Hindi. His greetings came amid continued engagement between the two countries, including discussions between Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the India-Israel Special Strategic Partnership and developments in West Asia.
US highlights expanding strategic cooperation
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also congratulated India on its Independence Day, saying that the India-US relationship continued to grow.
Rubio highlighted cooperation between the two countries in areas including defence, energy security, critical minerals, artificial intelligence, space and commerce. He said Washington looked forward to building on the partnership in the years ahead.
Singapore underscores Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam conveyed his greetings to President Murmu and the people of India, describing the occasion as a joyous milestone.
He highlighted the countries’ Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and pointed to expanding cooperation in areas such as skills development, digitalisation, sustainability and advanced manufacturing. He also emphasised strong people-to-people ties as an important part of the relationship.
Neighbours extend warm wishes
Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah extended greetings to Prime Minister Modi, the Indian government and the people of India on the occasion.
Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu also conveyed his warm wishes, describing India’s eight decades of independence as a reflection of the country’s resilience and aspirations. He reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening its partnership with India based on mutual respect, shared prosperity and friendship.
Former Maldives president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih also extended his greetings and expressed hope that India-Maldives cooperation would continue to grow.
Australia, Latvia and Ireland join celebrations
Latvia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs wished India continued progress, unity and prosperity.
In Australia, the High Commission in India joined the celebrations by illuminating its premises in the colours of the Indian Tricolour. Australian High Commissioner Philip Green also extended Independence Day greetings to Indians around the world.
The Embassy of Ireland in India similarly conveyed its wishes to India and Indians everywhere on the country’s 80th Independence Day.
