New Delhi, August 30: Social media influencer Manjeet Kaur, who was allegedly abducted from Chandigarh and set on fire in Morinda, died this week while receiving medical treatment. Her autopsy report revealed that she was seven weeks pregnant at the time of her death.

Kaur was admitted to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh on August 26, nearly two months after she suffered severe burn injuries.

Kanta Devi, Kaur's mother, filed the FIR (First Information Report), which named two suspects, Shubhi and Pinda, who were acquaintances of Kaur. Police have booked them for kidnapping and murder and launched a manhunt to arrest both suspects.

What Happened?

According to the complaint, Shubhi and Pinda called Manjeet to Sector 34 in Chandigarh on the intervening night of July 3 and 4. The duo allegedly assaulted her, forced her into a vehicle and took her to a forested area near Morinda. The accused allegedly tied her to a tree and set her on fire.

Police said another acquaintance who later reached the spot managed to put out the fire using a blanket.

She was initially taken to a hospital in Morinda before being shifted to Max Hospital in Mohali for better treatment. She was later admitted to PGIMER, where she remained under treatment until her death.

Delay in Recording Kaur's Statement Raises Questions

Kaur regained consciousness during her treatment and sought to have her statement recorded. A source said PGIMER informed Kharar Sadar police that she was conscious and in a condition to give her statement.

The source also said the information was conveyed to the investigating officer, but he allegedly did not reach the hospital.

A DDR (Daily Diary Report) was reportedly recorded at the PGIMER police post regarding the communication.

The PGIMER police post subsequently informed Kharar Sadar police again. The investigating officer reached the hospital shortly after Kaur died on August 26.

Kaur's mother was later taken to the Sector 34 police station, where police recorded her statement and registered an FIR on Wednesday night.

Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding Kaur's alleged abduction and death, as well as the events leading up to the attack.
