Pak-Linked Ice Syndicate Busted in Punjab

Chandigarh, June 18: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Chandigarh Zonal Unit, in a joint operation with Chandigarh Police, has busted an alleged Pakistan-linked drug trafficking syndicate operating from Kharar in Punjab and arrested two persons.
According to an official statement issued by the NCB, the operation was carried out on June 12 in the Tricity region based on specific intelligence inputs.
The operation began with the interception of a vehicle being used by a practising advocate. During the search, officials recovered 93 grams of Methamphetamine, commonly known as "Ice", and 10 grams of heroin.
Subsequent searches conducted at a flat in Kharar led to the recovery of an additional 700 grams of Methamphetamine and 250 grams of poppy straw.
In total, the agency seized 793 grams of Methamphetamine, 10 grams of heroin and 250 grams of poppy straw.
A woman residing with the accused was also detained and later arrested for allegedly facilitating and actively assisting in the commission of the offence.
The NCB stated that the quantity of Methamphetamine recovered is approximately sixteen times the notified commercial quantity under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
During the course of the investigation, officials found that the accused had previously been booked in FIR No. 476 dated December 25, 2023, registered at Police Station Sector-36, Chandigarh.
The agency said investigations have revealed the existence of a well-organised and sophisticated drug trafficking network with links to a Pakistan-based drug syndicate.
Further investigation is underway to identify other members of the network and trace the source and destination of the narcotic substances.
The NCB has appealed to citizens to share information related to drug trafficking through the MANAS National Narcotics Helpline (1933), assuring that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
