PM Modi Hands Over 'Made in India' Patrol Vessel to Seychelles Coast Guard

Victoria (Seychelles), June 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday handed over a 'Made in India' Fast Patrol Vessel, PS LESPWAR, to the Seychelles Coast Guard, reaffirming India's commitment to enhancing the island nation's maritime security and defence capabilities.

Prime Minister Modi and Seychelles President Patrick Herminie attended the handover ceremony at the Coast Guard Base in Victoria during Modi's three-day official visit to the Indian Ocean nation.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the patrol vessel will strengthen Seychelles' maritime surveillance and bolster patrolling of its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

As part of India's development assistance, Modi also handed over six ambulances, 10 utility vehicles and five laser radial boats to support Seychelles' security and public service infrastructure.

In a post on X, the MEA said the two countries continue to deepen their defence partnership under India's Vision MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions), aimed at promoting security, stability and sustainable growth across the Indian Ocean region.

India has remained a longstanding defence partner of Seychelles, supporting the country through the supply of patrol vessels, aircraft and training programmes to strengthen its maritime capabilities.
