Howrah, June 25: Shamim Ahmed—husband of a former Trinamool Congress councillor—faced allegations of orchestrating a shooting and bombing spree at Shibpur town in the Howrah district of West Bengal immediately after the counting of votes following the recent Assembly Elections 2026. He was later arrested in Mumbai.

Now, the police have sent a stern message to miscreants by parading this 'terror of Shibpur' through the streets clad only in a vest and shorts. Handcuffed, with a rope tied around his waist and surrounded by police personnel, the arrested Trinamool leader was marched along the GT Road in Shibpur on Wednesday evening. The very man who once held ordinary citizens at his beck and call was himself paraded with a rope around his waist by the police.

Clashes between Trinamool and BJP supporters had broken out in Shibpur on May 7.

Allegations had surfaced regarding not only the hurling of bombs but also multiple rounds of gunfire. Trinamool leader Shamim Ahmed and his associates were accused of orchestrating the attack.

Following the incident, Shamim Ahmed—alias 'Boro'—the husband of former Howrah Municipal Corporation councillor Shamima Banu, was arrested in Mumbai last Thursday. On Sunday, the Howrah court remanded him to eight days of police custody. The very next day, this scene unfolded - police paraded the Trinamool leader through a crowded market area with a rope tied around his waist, leaving the public stunned.

Shamim Ahmed’s name had surfaced in connection with the bombing and shooting in Shibpur following the vote count. He is the husband of former Trinamool councillor Shamima Banu. Subsequent police searches revealed a stark contrast - while the housing complex appeared dilapidated from the outside, the interior housed a lavish apartment. He faces allegations of extortion, illegal construction, hooliganism, and post-poll violence—all facilitated by his influence. He was subsequently arrested in Mumbai and remanded to eight days of police custody.

Reports indicate that the allegations stem from widespread bombing and gunfire in Shibpur on May 7 amidst post-poll violence. The Shibpur police station has initiated an investigation into the incident. Following this, Shamim Ahmed and his associates fled Shibpur.

Last Thursday, a total of four individuals, including the accused, were arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch. They were brought to Howrah on transit remand last Saturday. Subsequently, when produced before the Howrah court yesterday (Sunday), the judge ordered eight days of police custody. Today, personnel from the Shibpur Police Station and central forces paraded Shamim Ahmed—dressed only in a vest and shorts—throughout the city.
