‘What Did Delhi Gain From a Woman CM?’ Saurabh Bharadwaj Questions Women’s Safety

New Delhi, September 23: Aam Aadmi Party Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj on Wednesday questioned the Delhi government's handling of women's safety after a 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men at Aastha Kunj Park near Kalkaji Temple. This led the Lady Shri Ram College for Women, where the teen studies, to shift classes online.
Bharadwaj questioned what Delhi had accomplished under the BJP government and raised questions on incidents, concern regarding women's and students' safety in the nation's capital.
Question on Women Safety
"What did Delhi gain from the BJP's female chief minister? Three men gang-raped a 17-year-old on her birthday as she was returning from Kalkaji Temple. He said in a post on X, "Even a prestigious college like LSR is forced to hold online classes."
On Monday evening, three men Asif, Hemant and his brother Manish allegedly posed as police personnel and took turns to rape the 17-year-old girl inside the Aastha Kunj Park near the Kalkaji Mandir, police said.
Additionally, Lady Shri Ram College cancelled regular classes on Tuesday and switched to online classes on Wednesday due to the alleged incident. With the college administration saying the safety of its students remained its top priority.
Bharadwaj also raised concerns over crimes against women and said, "Child rapes, gang rapes and molestations every day."
Allegation on Other Leaders
He also claimed that ministers were bringing "frivolous defamation cases" and that police had filed POCSO and other FIRs against opposition politicians when they questioned the government and police.
The BJP did not immediately respond to the allegation.
