When the Nation Faces a Challenge, Parties Must Unite: Nitin Nabin on Advani
Nitin Nabin invokes L K Advani’s nation-first legacy, his belief of the opposition supporting the government on national security issues.
Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Nabin on Sunday said the Opposition should learn from his party veteran and former deputy prime minister Lal Krishna Advani, who maintained that political parties must unite whenever the country faces a challenge.
Speaking at a special event at the BJP headquarters to mark Advani’s 100th birthday, Nabin described the veteran leader as an inspiration for everyone in the party. He said Advani’s commitment to the “nation first” ideology had helped silence critics of the BJP’s growth and expansion.

“Whenever he spoke in Parliament, he always said that the BJP would stand with the government on issues of national security, even while in the opposition. As Leader of the Opposition, he made it clear that the entire opposition would stand with the government when it came to the country. This is a lesson that remains relevant even today,” Nabin said.
Nabin said that although he did not get the opportunity to work with Advani, accounts from those who did had shown him how deeply inspiring the veteran leader’s life had been for BJP workers.
“Advani could take even the most difficult decisions with simplicity,” he said. “Despite having experienced the pain of Partition, he showed immense dedication to the nation.”
He added that the leadership of Advani and former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee laid the foundation for the BJP’s steady rise from a party with just two MPs, disproving those who doubted its future.
“Advani has been an inspiration for everyone in the BJP,” Nabin said.

Piyush Goyal’s Tribute
Speaking before Nabin, senior Union minister and BJP treasurer Piyush Goyal recalled his long association with Advani. He said the veteran leader never let anyone feel the weight of his stature, and was affectionately called “Dada” by those around him.
“Advani thought only of taking the country and the party forward, with complete selflessness,” Goyal said. “We all hope the country continues to receive leaders like Lal Krishna Advani.”
Goyal said Advani had always treated him like a member of his family. “Perhaps he never called me by my name, Piyush. He always knew me as ‘Happy’,” he said.

He credited leaders like Advani for the BJP’s growing strength in the Lok Sabha and the corresponding decline of the Congress. The event, held on Advani’s birthday, included prayers, a video on his life and political journey, and tributes from senior party leaders, reports PTI.
