Kolkata, June 23: Former Tarakeswar Municipality Chairman and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Swapan Samanta was allegedly paraded through a locality in West Bengal's Hooghly district on Monday by BJP supporters, who hung shoes and a belt around his neck and pelted him with raw eggs.
The incident occurred in the Padmapukur area of Tarakeswar and sparked political controversy in the district.

Samanta, who currently serves as the councillor of Ward No. 8 in Tarakeswar, was seen wearing a sleeveless vest and trousers while being marched through the area. BJP workers accused him of corruption, extortion, and accepting "cut money" from beneficiaries of government schemes.
Videos from the scene showed supporters raising slogans against the former municipal chairman and calling him a "thief." During the procession, raw eggs were thrown at him, and he was reportedly forced to perform sit-ups while holding his ears on a public road.
The BJP claimed the protest reflected public anger over alleged corruption involving local TMC leaders. No immediate response from Samanta or the Trinamool Congress was available.
In a separate incident on the same day, former Tarakeswar MLA and TMC leader Ramendu Sinha Roy was also targeted by protesters outside the Dhaniakhali police station. According to reports, a crowd hurled raw eggs at Roy while police were escorting him from the station to a court in Chinsurah.
Roy had been arrested in Karnataka on Sunday and brought to West Bengal on transit remand. He was produced before a court, which reportedly granted police custody for ten days.
The twin incidents come amid heightened political tensions in West Bengal, where allegations of corruption and political confrontation continue to dominate the political landscape.
Police have not yet issued a detailed statement regarding the public humiliation of the two TMC leaders.
