New Delhi, June 19: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed all medical colleges and institutions under its jurisdiction not to grant leave to students on June 20 and 21, except in exceptional circumstances, as a precautionary measure ahead of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for June 21.
In a notice issued on Thursday, the Commission said the directive was issued following instructions from the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, to ensure the smooth and fair conduct of the medical entrance examination.

The NMC noted that in the past, some medical students were found to be involved in activities that could compromise the sanctity and integrity of examination processes. In light of these incidents, colleges have been asked to remain vigilant and sensitise students against participating in any activity that may adversely affect the examination.
"As a matter of general deterrence, all medical colleges are directed to remain vigilant and ensure that students are sensitised against any involvement in activities prejudicial to the conduct of the examination," the notice stated.
The Commission advised institutions to approve leave only in exceptional cases and with proper justification. According to the NMC, the restriction is intended as a preventive measure to discourage any potential misuse and to support the fair conduct of the examination.
The communication has been sent to the deans and principals of all medical colleges and institutions under the Commission's purview.
The development comes after the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3 following allegations of a paper leak. Subsequently, the Union government ordered a comprehensive investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The NEET-UG 2026 re-examination is scheduled to be held on June 21.
