New Delhi, August 18: TVK MLA R Pallavi has been bringing her newborn baby to the ongoing Monsoon Session of the Tamil Nadu Assembly, drawing attention from fellow legislators and criticism on social media.

Pallavi does not take the child into the Assembly hall. Instead, she leaves the baby with an attendant in a room near the hall while she attends the proceedings, news agency PTI reported, citing sources.

The caregiver looks after the newborn until Pallavi returns from the Assembly proceedings.

Recently, Pallavi took her baby to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK founder C Joseph Vijay on the Assembly premises, where he blessed the child.

The first-time MLA has previously been accompanied by her child at the Assembly. During the first session after TVK came to power, she was seen carrying her son on the Assembly premises in Chennai.

Pallavi had also made national headlines when she took her oath as an MLA while eight months pregnant.

Her Reply to Criticism

Pallavi faced criticism on social media, with some users accusing her of "creating a scene" by carrying her child around the Assembly premises. She rejected the criticism, saying she could not leave her newborn at home.

"What is there to create a scene? How can I leave the newborn at home? Please think and then make a comment. It is okay even if you do not understand the pain of others, but do not troll," she told a YouTube channel.

While many criticised her decision, others called it a bold move that could set a positive precedent for working women.

In the April 2026 Assembly polls, Pallavi was elected from the Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar constituency in Chennai.

The ongoing Monsoon Session of the Tamil Nadu Assembly is scheduled to continue until September 8.
