New Delhi, August 21: The Opposition in India has refused to let the controversy over the alleged use of a pellet gun during the July 20 'Sansad Chalo' protest against the 2026 NEET-UG paper leak die down. INDIA Bloc member and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday staged a sit-in protest at the Sansad Marg Police Station in Delhi, demanding that officials file an FIR (First Information Report) over the alleged use of a pellet gun against an unarmed protestor. The protestor suffered a serious eye injury.

According to Rahul Gandhi, the victim, Sahil Lochab, was severely injured and is at risk of losing vision in one eye. A number of his supporters accompanied Gandhi, with senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also reaching at the police station to seek "justice" for Sahil.

Earlier in the day, Rahul visited the DCP's office at Parliament Street to seek the registration of an FIR over the alleged police brutality. On July 20, police allegedly used a pellet gun against Sahil while he was peacefully protesting at Jantar Mantar.

Rahul alleged that the victim had approached the police to file a formal complaint, but officials refused to register it.

“Such brutality against a peaceful protest is not just illegal, it's a serious crime. Neither has Home Minister Amit Shah offered any explanation to the students for this cruelty, nor has the Prime Minister apologised to them. Now, when Sahil wants to file an FIR for justice, even that is not being allowed. In this way, the Constitution and constitutional rights are being trampled upon,” Gandhi said.

Sharpening his attack on the Union Home Minister, Gandhi said, “@AmitShah ji, why are you so scared of justice? This fear shows that you are admitting to your crime.”

“The FIR will be filed. A judicial inquiry will take place. And action will be taken against everyone from top to bottom who is guilty of this brutality. We will ensure justice for Sahil, and every student victim like him,” he added.

Monsoon Session Marred

The Opposition had also raised the alleged use of a pellet gun against the student protestor during the Parliament Monsoon Session, which concluded this month in absolute chaos. Several prominent leaders across party lines had urged the Home Ministry to address the issue, as the Delhi Police reports to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
