New Delhi, June 28: A group of four people, including two women, was intercepted by the Peechi Police in Kerala's Thrissur district on Friday night. According to police, the occupants appeared nervous when questioned, prompting officers to search the vehicle. During interrogation, their responses raised further suspicion. Upon conducting a search, police found that one of the women was concealing a quantity of the synthetic drug MDMA in her private part. The District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force was subsequently alerted, and a further 13 grams of MDMA was recovered from the house of another accused, Shifaz (26).

Police said on Sunday that seven people have been arrested in connection with the procurement and trafficking of MDMA. A total of 308 grams of the synthetic drug, valued at over Rs 15 lakh, was seized in two cases registered at the Peechi and Chavakkad police stations.

All seven accused were produced before a court on Sunday and remanded to judicial custody.

According to officials, the four occupants of the car told police at the Vaniyampara checking post on Friday evening that they were returning from a party held at a resort in Muthalamada, Palakkad district. Following the recovery of the illegally possessed drugs, police arrested Shifaz (26) of Kakkassery, Vidya (28) of Nenmeni, Jishnu (27) of Attayoor and Sreelakshmi (20) of Nambazhikad, who were travelling in the vehicle.

Police said the investigation revealed that Shifaz had procured the drugs. A subsequent search of his residence, located within the Pavaratty police station limits, led to the seizure of an additional 13 grams of MDMA.

Further investigation revealed that more narcotics had been removed from Shifaz's house by his friend, Sumesh.

Police later tracked down Sumesh and identified two of his associates — Shabeer P. A. (37) of Thaikkad and Ansad (33) of Chavakkad.

The Chavakkad Police subsequently took the duo into custody and recovered 288.8 grams of MDMA from an aluminium fabrication workshop in Thaikkad on Saturday.

Sumesh (25) was later arrested in connection with the case.
