By Mahima Katal Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday chaired a meeting of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), during which members discussed measures and policy ideas to sustain and accelerate India's economic growth amid ongoing global uncertainties.
According to official sources, the meeting focused on reforms aimed at improving both ease of living and ease of doing business. Members of the council shared their views on strengthening India's economic resilience and maintaining growth momentum in a challenging international environment.
The council also assessed the potential impact of the ongoing West Asia conflict on India and the global economy, with members presenting their analysis of the evolving situation and its possible economic implications.
The meeting comes against the backdrop of the Prime Minister’s recent calls for citizens to contribute to economic resilience by reducing dependence on imported fuel and adopting sustainable practices.
Last month, Modi urged people to prioritise work from home wherever feasible, reduce fuel consumption, avoid foreign travel for a year, prefer Swadeshi products, cut down on cooking oil consumption, adopt natural farming methods and limit gold purchases.
To address fuel price volatility and reduce pressure on the economy, the Prime Minister also appealed to citizens to change travel and transportation habits. He encouraged greater use of metro services and public transport, carpooling when private vehicles are necessary, increased reliance on railways for the movement of goods, and wider adoption of electric vehicles to reduce petrol and diesel consumption.
