By Mahima Katal At a time when employment remains one of India’s most closely watched economic and political issues, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday distributed more than 51,000 appointment letters under the Centre’s ‘Rozgar Mela’ initiative, positioning the recruitment drive as part of the government’s push to expand public sector opportunities for young Indians.
Addressing the event virtually, Modi said the day marked an important milestone for thousands of youths and their families across the country.
“Today is a very important day for thousands of youths across the country. More than 51,000 young people have received appointment letters for government jobs,” he said.
The Prime Minister said the newly appointed candidates would become key contributors to India’s development journey by taking up responsibilities across sectors including railways, banking, defence, health, education and other government departments.
“In the coming years, all of you are going to play an important role in fulfilling the resolve for a developed India,” Modi said, congratulating the appointees and their families.
Emphasising the role of young people in shaping India’s future, Modi said the country’s youth are driving the vision of a Viksit Bharat and that the Rozgar Mela reflects the government’s commitment to empowering “Yuva Shakti” through employment opportunities.
“The world is very excited about India’s youth and technological progress. Today, the world wants to be a part of India’s development journey,” he said.
According to officials, the Rozgar Mela is a key initiative aimed at accelerating recruitment across central government departments and generating employment opportunities.
Since the launch of the programme, around 12 lakh appointment letters have been issued through 18 Rozgar Mela events held across the country.
The event on Saturday was organised at 47 locations nationwide. The selected candidates will join ministries and departments including railways, home affairs, health and family welfare, financial services and higher education, among others.
